Halloween for Davie and Jane

Vanilla cake with Coconut Cream filling. The Calavera is hand made by a friend. (I have no idea who Jorge is or why the name is on the Calavera.)

Next up is a Halloween cake, just for fun.

Cake for Cindy Oct. 2010

A huge cake for Cindy. The bottom layer is a dummy, the yellow is vanilla with coconut cream filling, the pink is chocolate with bavarian cream filling, the green and lilac are strawberry with strawberry mousse. I could not get the top layer and the turret to sit up straight. A chef at the hotel and I struggled for quite some time and finally decided it would do no harm. (I hope it was a good decision.) It took nearly an hour to get it set up, and there were several hotel restaurant staff watching, just to add to the stress. Everything is edible except the base layer and the turret cylinder. The decorations are fondant and chocolate. The roses are gum paste. I asked who was going to serve the cake, figuring it would be the restaurant staff, but was told it would most probably be taken home for the family to eat. A cake for 150 and they're taking it home?
